Maybe you’ve been thinking “I should really do something about this leaking when I sneeze” or maybe sex hasn’t been comfortable in years. Maybe you’ve thought that you don’t want to end up like your mom or aunt who had to have surgery after menopause.
“You should do your kegels” is often the only advice we get when it comes to incontinence, pain and prolapse. There are some people who say “don’t do kegels, do squats.” It’s confusing and wait- I don’t even know how to do kegels!
You are not alone, millions of women have pelvic floor issues;
they leak have pain with sex. feel like their insides are falling out always running to the toilet
The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that keep us dry, enjoy sex and help with core strength. These muscles can be injured and weakened from surgery, childbirth or can become tight and painful as a response to trauma, persistent pain or intense exercise.
A pelvic floor physical therapist (that’s me!) is trained to assess these muscles specifically. You can learn more about what exactly happens during a pelvic floor evaluation here.
You may be thinking, but “I’ve been to PT before, they just gave me a bunch of exercises I never got around to
doing and I had to go twice per week for 6 weeks. I don’t have the time or the resources to do that again.” Whether you’ve been to PT before for your shoulder or your pelvic floor, let me assure you this is not that.
I take a modern, realistic approach to physical therapy. My goal is to provide simple, strategic care and guidance so you can gain control of your body without sacrificing your life to get there. For most women, this means only a few visits a month, so you can spend time doing the things you really love.
You will leave our sessions having learned about a very important part of your body, what is going on and why you are having the symptoms you are having. We’ll get clear on what really matters to you and create a plan so you can incorporate strategies into your everyday activities, (because that’s what really counts). You’ll have a roadmap and the support to meet your goals so you can feel confident in your body again.
“I can’t believe what a difference just a few visits with Allison has changed my body! I was 6 years postpartum after having three babies and figured it was time to take care of myself a little better. Since giving birth I have dealt with leaking issues whenever I cough, sneeze or wait too long to go to the bathroom. I knew that I was also going to the bathroom way too often! Somehow I wrote this off to be “normal.” After just a few visits with Allison, I have learned so much about and have a greater appreciation for my pelvic floor. Thank you so much, Allison! Not only is she knowledgeable about her work, but she explains it all in a way that I can understand! Every woman deserves to see Allison!”
